SUB: Declaration of Technical specifications such as grade, Purity, quality, size, international standards etc., of the Goods by importers- Reg.

It is noticed that the importers/Custom House Agents do not give the full description of the goods in the Bill of Entry. All the importers/trading public/Custom House Agents are hereby directed to correctly declare in the Bill of Entry and associated documents, the technical specifications such as international standards, grade, purity, brand, capacity, quality, number (in respect of packaged /bottled goods) etc relevant for the goods imported and having a bearing on the value of the goods as well as classification and application of exemption notifications. Illustrative list of goods and details to be furnished is given below:

Gems & Jewellrey |
Grade, purity, composition (percentage) quantity, synthetic stones /
natural stones (type to be amplified) weight in carats. |

Metals |
Grade, percentage of composition, size, type
(block, plate, casting, roll etc.), tensile strength, cross sectional
dimensions, type of processing (hot / cold rolling, annealing) etc/ (Ref. P.N.30/2001 also) |

Consumer goods |
Grade, capacity, size, quantity (specially in the
case of packaged / bottled commodities) mandatory certifications, contents
etc. |

Liquor |
Manufacturer, year of manufacture, percentage of
alcohol, quantity, pieces / volume per package. |

Medical equipment |
Type / capacity, primary & auxiliary
functions, details of standard & optional accessories, manufacturer &
make etc. |
The list
given above is only illustrative and not exhaustive in terms of the category of
items as well as the specifications. Proper care should be taken to include the
other relevant details in tune with the respective classification /
notifications claimed.
Failure
to comply with these instructions may lead to first check / first appraisement
of the goods, in order to ascertain the specifications relevant for the goods.
The importers are also advised to inform their suppliers to indicate the
particulars in the invoice / packing list etc.
