FOREIGN EXCHANGE

Any person may take or send out of India

i.         cheques drawn on foreign currency account maintained in accordance with FEMA Regulations, 2000
ii.      foreign exchange obtained by him by drawal from an authorized person in accordance with the rules and             regulation.

Any person may take out of India

i.        foreign exchange possessed by him in accordance with FEMA Regulations, 2000
ii.       unspent foreign exchange brought back by him to India while returning from travel abroad and retained in accordance with  the FEMA Regulations, 2000

Any person resident outside

India may take out of India unspent foreign exchange not exceeding the amount brought in by him and declared in Currency Declaration Form where the value of the Foreign Exchange brought in by him exceeded US$ 5000 or its equivalent in currency notes or US$ 10000 or its equivalent in currency notes, bank notes and traveler’s cheques.

Any person resident in India

i.        may take outside India (other than to Nepal and Bhutan) currency notes of Government of India and RBI Notes upto an amount not exceeding Rs. 5,000/- (Rupees Five Thousand) per person
ii.      may take or send outside India (other than to Nepal and Bhutan) commemorative coins (issued by Government of India Mint to commemorate any specific occasion or event and expressed in Indian Currency) not exceeding two coins each.

No person shall take or send out of India, the Indian coins which are covered by the Antique and Art Treasure Act, 1972

Any person may

i.     Take or send out of India to Nepal or Bhutan, currency notes of Government of India and RBI Notes (other than notes of denominations of Rs. 100/- (Rupees one hundred) in either case
ii.      take out of India to Nepal or Bhutan, currency notes being the currency of Nepal or Bhutan

WHAT SHOULD YOU DO WHEN YOU LEAVE INDIA

If you intend taking out with you articles of high value such as a camera, video camera, video cassette recorder, jewellery etc, an Export Certificate for such articles, may be requested from Customs, at the time of Departure.  The Customs Officer will examine the items and issue the certificate.  Keep this certificate safe with you and on return to India, show the Certificate to the Customs Officer who will then be able to allow the items covered by the Export Certificate free of duty.
