HOW TO BID IN E-AUCTION:

Here are the   six  simple steps to bid in e-auction:

Step 1:  Visit www.chennaicustoms.org; click the ‘E-auction’ link;  click the ‘list of lots’ for that particular months to check the list of lots.

Step 2:  Select the lots you are interested in.  Check the time, dates and places of inspection for the lots.

Step 3:  Visit the concerned CFS/CWC/CPT/CWH to inspect the lot.  Get yourself satisfied  regarding the quantity, quality etc. of the goods.  Cross-check with the CFS/CWC/CPT or the Auction Unit of the Custom House if you have any doubts/queries.  Please remember that it is always better to have the doubts clarified before the commencement of auction.

Step 4:  Do your homework thoroughly such as deciding about lots you want to bid for, what are the bid amounts etc. before you participate in the auction.

Step 5: When e-auction commences follow these simple procedures to bid: a) visit www.chennaicustoms.org; b) click the ‘e-auction’ link; c) click the ‘e-auction site’ link; d) click the ‘sign-in’ link on the e-auction site screen; e) enter your user id and password – now you have arrived at the bidding screen under your user id and password.

Step 6:  Keep the  list of lots you want to bid and the bids you intend to put handy and go ahead bidding.

These six simple steps will help you bid easily.  Always check whether  your user id and password are correct as soon as the e-auction starts.  As the e-auction is usually conducted for 48 hours any mistake/forgetfulness on your part with regard to user id and password  can be rectified by the E-auction Unit immediately.  Use the ‘change profile’ link in the e-auction site to change your password.  Keep your password secret.

Do not postpone the bidding to the eleventh hours of e-auction.  If you do not want others to learn about your bids please make use of sealed ‘e-tender’ and auto bid facility available.  Herewith we provide you with the ways of making best use of e-tender and auto bid to your maximum advantage.

HOW TO USE TENDER/AUTOBID TO YOUR MAXIMUM ADVANTAGE IN

E-AUCTION

Dear bidders,

You are all aware that ‘e-auction’ has been launched by Chennai Customs in December 2003 and is now conducted on a regular basis every month.  As Chennai Customs is considering stoppage of  “Physical Auctions” altogether it is imperative that the bidders should be aware of how to bid in the e-auction and how to use the options ‘e-tender’ and ‘Auto bid’ to their maximum advantage.  Contrary to popular belief, in the e-auction it is possible to bid for the goods the bidder wants, by placing bid only once without paying more than what he is willing to pay and without paying much more than the highest bid of others.  The e-tender and auto bid options facilitate this.  It is possible to sit before the computer only once and bid for a few minutes only by making use of ‘e-tender’ and ‘Auto bid options’

Step One:            Select the lots you want to bid.

Step Two:       Arrive at the maximum and minimum amount you want to bid for that lot.  The maximum amount should be the maximum you are willing to pay for that lot and the minimum should be the least realistic amount for that lot.

Step Three:    Go to submit tender/Auto bid options. Submit the minimum amount in the tender option and maximum in the auto bid option with an incremental value (minimum Rs.100).

In this method there are two  advantages; first,  no one will bid for that lot for an amount less than your bid and win it; two, since you have declared the maximum you can bid you need not sit before the system any longer for bidding.  Anytime anyone bids the system will automatically increment their bid in your favour till your auto bid limit is reached.   Since both the tender and auto bid amounts are not exhibited you can be rest assured of secrecy of your bidding.  All you have to check is whether the bidding has increased beyond your auto bid limit.  In any case you have already submitted the maximum amount upto which you want to bid.

When using  these options in the way as explained above you need not sit in front of the computer for bidding for more than 5 minutes.  Neither you need to worry about any uncertainties such as power failure, e-traffic etc.

We are happy to inform you that we are making available at the Customs warehouse one personal computer for the bidders during office hours on e-auction days.  This facility is available to those bidders who would like to exercise  the above explained procedure.
