
Narcotic drugs valued at Rs.38 lakhs was seized by Officers of AIU
at Chennai International Airport.
As many as 49,000 narcotic pills worth Rs.38 lakh were seized from a Kualalumpur bound passenger at Chennai airport in the early hours of Friday, customs officials said. Customs Officers of the Air Intelligence Unit in Chennai airport intercepted Malik Thameem Ansari (21) of Triplicane and found drug pills concealed in polythene bags with about 50,000 medicinal pills. "We seized on lakh pills hidden in the boxes. As many as 5,500 pills of zolfresh (zolpidem Tartrate tablets) and 4,500 Trika-I pills (Alprazoiam tablets), which are psychotropic substances, were found. Euphedrine tablets numbering 39,000 which can be taken abroad after getting a no-objection certificate from the narcotics commissioner were seized", Customs Official said.
