Sub:
Movement of Export cargo in containers from Chennai Port for shipment through
other Gateway Ports – regarding.

Requests
have come from Steamer Agents to permit movement of Export cargo in containers
from Chennai Port / CFSs to Tuticorin to be shipped from Tuticorin as direct
sailing from Tuticorin to USA, Canada, etc. is starting shortly.
In
order to facilitate the Export trade and to save on the transaction cost, such
movement is being permitted. The Steamer Agents, CHAs, Exporters and all others
concerned may note that for movement of export cargo in containers, after
examination by Customs from Chennai Port / CFSs to be shipped from other
Gateway Ports, the procedure outlined in this Custom House Public Notice
No.81/2000 dated 10.03.2000 shall be followed.
As per the said Public Notice, the responsibility of movement of
containers containing export cargo to other Ports lies with the Steamer
Agents. Even if the containers are
moved through CONCOR by train / road, the responsibility lies with the Steamer
Agents only. The Steamer Agents should
ensure that they submit the Sub-Export General Manifest to this Custom House
within 7 days of the sailing of the vessel to enable timely processing of
Drawback claims, etc.
