Subject: Speedy clearance of import cargoes to reduce congestion in the
Chennai Port Trust - Examination of Import Cargoes on Wheels and round the
clock on selective basis upto 15.12.2001 - Regarding.

In order
to reduce the congestion in the Port, it has been decided to permit examination
of Containerised cargoes “on wheels” round the clock till the congestion in the
port is reduced.
This
facility of “on wheel examination of imported containerised cargoes round the
clock” will be available till 15.12.2001, subject to the following conditions:
1. This offer
is extended to all importers who are at present availing Green Channel facility
as well as to other reputed importers for clearance of non-sensitive cargoes.
2. This
facility is not available to sensitive cargoes susceptible for under-valuation
and consumer goods (including consumer electronic goods), second hand
machineries, metal scraps.
3. The
importers/CHAs are requested to ensure that all legal and procedural
requirements such as production of PHO Certificate, Test Certificates etc. are
complied with before making request for “on wheels” examination.
4. The
Importer/CHA intending to avail this facility should make an application in
writing in advance to the Deputy Commissioner (Docks). The Deputy Commissioner
(Docks) will examine the merits of the application and permit accordingly.
